Your New Rat
Housing
Maximum Capacity: one rat

Pros
: deep litter pan, untippable food dish, small bar spacing, easy access door

Cons: only large enough for one rat, plastic shelving will get chewed and won't clean easily

Bottom Line: unless you only have one rat (which is not recommended) this cage is far too small.  Also, for nearly $40, you could easily build a cage over twice the size.

Pros: small bar spacing, easy access doors, low price

Cons: only large enough for one rat, wire shelving has narrow bars that will trap feces, shelves are small and may be dangerous if a rat were to fall from the top, litter pan too shallow

Bottom Line: unless you only have one rat (which is not recommended) this cage is far too small.  It would be a nice cage for two young rats, but once they reached adult size they would need a larger cage.

Super Pet Deluxe Critter Home - $72.99
Dimensions: 24.5" x 12.5" x 24.5"

Manufacturer's Description: "This home snaps together in minutes, with no tools needed. It's the ideal size to give pet rats, sugar gliders, degus and squirrels plenty of room, yet lightweight and easy to lift. It features a smooth, easy-clean plastic base and white wire top. Includes comfort shelves, solid safety ramps, solid surface workout wheel and sturdy feeding dish. The deep plastic base prevents bedding from scattering while the white wire top makes for easy viewing and superb ventilation. "Pet Safe" narrow ½" spaced wire bars prevent small animal pets from escaping."

Maximum Capacity: two rats
Pros: deep litter pan, untippable food dish, easy access doors, small bar spacing, safe wheel included

Cons: plastic shelving will get chewed and won't clean easily, high price

Bottom Line: a nice cage for a single pair of rats.  The levels will have to be washed every day or two to reduce the buildup of urine and feces.  The wheel is a nice, safe one, but many rats do not use wheels.  For the price, this cage is a bit small.
Super Pet Deluxe My First Home Cage For Exotics - $99.99
Dimensions: 30" x 18" x 30"

Manufacturer's Description: "Give your exotic critter the comfort of a deluxe 3-story home with over 8 square feet of living space! Includes roomy wire cage with easy to clean plastic base, 3 lofts and ramps, ledge, food dish, cozy hammock, giant exercise wheel, a name plate you can personalize for your pet and much more.   Ideal for pet rats, chinchillas, sugar gliders and more. "

Maximum Capacity: four rats
Pros: deep litter pan, untippable food dish, easy access doors, small bar spacing, hammock included, large size

Cons: plastic shelving will get chewed and won't clean easily, wheel may not be safe for rats, rat could get hurt falling from top shelf

Bottom Line: actually a pretty decent cage for the price.  The wheel may not be used by most rats, and with a wire surface and side bars it may also not be safe to use.
All Living Things Chew Proof Penthouse - $109.99
Dimensions: 30.5" x 15.75" x 28"

Manufacturer's Description: "Two levels of double-wide living space for your furry friend at an affordable price! "

Features:

    * Chew proof all metal construction
    * Simple assembly, no tools required
    * Durable easy to clean metal pan
    * Drop pan for easy cleaning
    * Sturdy durable powder coated wire
    * Large easy access door"

Maximum Capacity: four rats
Pros: easy access doors, small bar spacing, large size

Cons: shallow litter pan, rat could get hurt falling from top shelf

Bottom Line: a good start to a suitable home for rats.  It is a large cage with small bar spacing, which is always good, and the wire levels can either be left to allow waste to fall through or they can be covered with replaceable liners.  The top level may be dangerously high, but if it were lowered or altered the cage would be safe.
Clean Living Large 2 Level Cage - $114.99
Dimensions: 32" x 22" x 23.5"

Manufacturer's Description: "Experience the expandable pet home! Clean Living Cages can grow as your pet grows. Key features include:

    * Slide out tray makes cleaning simple
    * Removable floor system keeps your pet clean, dry and comfortable
    * Clear plastic guards eliminate messes around your home
    * Extra large doors for easy access at every level
    * Safe, solid surface shelves and ramps
    * Simple Stack-N-Snap connection makes assembly easy for anyone "
Maximum Capacity: four rats

Pros
: easy access door, small bar spacing, removable floor grating, plastic guards keep bedding from being scattered, deep litter pan, cage is extendable, casters to move cage easily

Cons: floor grating (but it can be removed), plastic shelving will get chewed and won't clean easily, plastic guards will get chewed, slide out tray means only a small amount of bedding can be used at a time

Bottom Line: a good start to a suitable home for rats.  It is decent size for a few rats and it can be expanded with the purchase of additional levels (sold separately).  The plastic floor grating is better than wire grating, but still may not be comfortable for your rat, nor easy to clean.  It would probably be better to remove it.
Super Pet My First Home Multi-Floor Ferret Home - $119.99
Dimensions: 24" x 24" x 37"

Manufacturer's Description: "Give ferrets more space to have fun. This multi-level home features strong epoxy-coated metal panels (1inch wire spacing) and a washable, break-resistant 2' x 2' purple plastic base.

Includes a solid safety ramp, extreme spiral slide, crazy critter hammock, fluorescent FerreTrail Fun-nel, and three comfort shelves.

Plus, every home includes an inchesE-Zinches Roll stand with deluxe caster wheels. "

Maximum Capacity: six rats
Pros: deep litter pan, casters to move cage easily, variation in ways to get to the different levels, hammock and tube included

Cons: plastic shelving will get chewed and won't clean easily, bar spacing may not be suitable for smaller rats, door may not provide adequate access, rat could get hurt falling from top shelf

Bottom Line: a good-sized cage for the price.  The bar spacing would make this cage only suitable for adult rats and the shelving would have to be rearranged so it wouldn't be dangerous for the rats to fall from, but it is a good start for a sutiable rat home.
Clean Living Medium 6 Level Cage - $139.99
Dimensions: 26.5" x 18.5" x 51.5"

    * Extra heavy duty multi-level cage
    * Scatter proof plastic tray and guards
    * 5 safe, solid surface shelves and ramps
    * Clean comfortable floor grid system
    * Easy roll caster set "
Maximum Capacity: seven rats

Pros
: easy access doors on every level, small bar spacing, removable floor grating, plastic guards keep bedding from being scattered, deep litter pan, cage is extendable, casters to move cage easily

Cons: floor grating (but it can be removed), plastic shelving will get chewed and won't clean easily, plastic guards will get chewed, slide out tray means only a small amount of bedding can be used at a time, rat could get hurt falling from high shelves

Bottom Line: if you're willing to spend the money and are able to rearrange the levels so they are not so dangerous, this would be a good rat cage.  Doors at every level are a huge plus that make it much easier to get at your rats, and though there is a plastic grating it can be removed.

Pros
: easy access doors, cage separates into two, storage area below, casters to move cage easily

Cons: bar spacing may not be suitable for smaller rats, shallow litter pan, solid shelving will need to be cleaned often

Bottom Line: if your rats won't fit through the bars and you have the money to spend, this is a wonderful cage for rats.  It is very large, all metal, and can even be divided into two separate cages.
